Be Heard. The Sim Heard Podcast

Jan 29, 2021

They say it’s important to give your audience an intimate understanding of who you are… So for this “Friday FollowUp”, I decided to create a spoken word poem titled “Letter to the 585” to give you guys some insight into who I am, and the city I come from. I am from Rochester, NY and the area code of my city is 585. This is a letter I made addressed to my city. This letter is an accumulation of my thoughts and emotions about the police brutality, social injustice, and “black-on-black” crime that goes on in my hometown. This is my POV as a black man coming from Rochester, NY. This Friday,  I want to encourage you to know that your negative circumstances do not have to determine your final destination. It’s time to stop running from the obstacles in our life. We must stop running from where we come from. Instead, we must embrace, accept, and change where we come from for the better.
